SUMMARY:170 Years of La Salle in Malaysia Gala Dinner
DESCRIPTION:CELEBRATING THE 170 YEARS OF LASALLIAN LEGACY IN MALAYSIA \nOn December 8\, 1851\, a group of six La Salle Brothers and four Infant Jesus (IJ) Sisters left Paris on the ship\, La Julie\, and on March 29\, 1852\, landed in Singapore. Three of the Brothers\, Bro. Lothaire Combes\, Bro. Venere Chapius and Bro. Jerome King\, proceeded to Penang\, where they started on 12 April 1852 St. Xavier’s Institution. \nThis was to be the first of all the Christian Brothers’ Schools in Asia! \nToday\, the network of La Salle schools in Malaysia extends to 38 primary and secondary schools located in most major cities and towns in Peninsular Malaysia\, including 3 schools in East Malaysia. These schools have\, over the years\, produced remarkable students who became young outstanding young men and women who provided leadership\, governance\, and service in the building of our nation. \nIn celebrating this legacy of our inspirational Founder\, St John Baptist De La Salle\, and the many young men who have followed in his footsteps as the Brothers of the Christian Schools\, the La Salle Community in Malaysia is celebrating our 170th Anniversary in Malaysia. \nThe heartbeat of the network of the La Salle Schools around Malaysia is largely pumped by the Old Boys. The alumni members proudly hold their La Salle badge of honour on their chests\, in the hearts\, and this is the segment of our community which keeps the Spirit of La Salle burning brightly in Malaysia. In recognition of this\, the De La Salle Brothers of Malaysia has entrusted the alumni body to organise the celebrations of the historic 170th Anniversary milestone. \n \n\nA special Gala Dinner is being held in November as the main event to mark the historic occasion.
